How to Check the Video Driver

Posted on 03:56 by Unknown
In this post I have to discuss How to check video driver. Here some technical support tips listed for check video driver. I hope it is useful for you. If you are facing any problem talk to Microsoft certified technician for tech support.

If you are having problems loading the video driver on your computer, you may have a program that has replaced some files. Symptoms of this problem include:

• The system continues to default to VGA mode or only boots in VGA mode from the boot menu.
• Your video driver is not loading properly.

To verify exactly which video drivers that your Windows operating system is expecting to load:
1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. Go to the following location in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\hardware\DeviceMap\Video
3. The Device\Video0 value points to a registry key that has the location of the video driver that Windows is configured to load.

For example the value may be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\\Device0
4. Go to the following location in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\\Device0

To see what the value setting, double-click on the value InstalledDisplayDrivers. This is the driver that was loaded.

If it is set to another registry location, a third-party driver may be being loaded when Windows starts.

For example if PcAnywhere is installed, Device0 does not have the name of a file, but instead displays another registry location that gives the video driver name.

For example:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\AW_HOST\Video0.

Verify the following:
1. Verify that the file or files in step 4 is present in the WinNT\System32 folder. This file has a .DLL extension.
2. Verify that the file or files are also present in the \WinNT\System32\Drivers folder. This file will have the .SYS extension.
If the links and values are not correct, or if the files pointed to are not present, then resolve the problem so the system starts properly.

If the links and values are correct, and the files are present, then there may be a video driver conflict. Verify that you have the latest drivers for the video card.

Below is an example of what these registry settings would be like when using an S3 video card:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\hardware\DeviceMap\Video

The value Device\Video0 = \REGISTRY\Machine\System\ControlSet001\Services\s3\Device0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\s3\Device0

The value InstalledDisplayDrivers = s3 vga

McAfee Hosed in Windows 7 Beta

Posted on 01:33 by Unknown
For millions who decided to download and try out a free version of Microsoft's Windows 7 Beta, who also have been subscribed to McAfee virus protection, a rude awakening may be in store.

Like with Vista-based PCs that have been running Internet Explorer 8 in beta form, PCs that run Windows 7 Beta can't run McAfee Total Protection or antivirus.

"The version of Windows installed on this machine is not supported," says a warning note from McAfee Installer that pops up when attempting to run Total Virus Protection or Virus Scan Plus on Windows 7. "Please refer to the product documentation for a list of supported operating systems."

After a fit and a start, Microsoft finally released a version of its Windows 7 Beta to the market over the weekend. Testing and an early look shows the operating system to be very similar to Windows Vista, with improvements in its User Account Control management, multimedia management and a cleaner interface. Windows 7 also tightly integrates Internet Explorer 8 beta software into the experience - - and IE 8 has been accused of balky behavior when run on PCs with a number of other applications.

McAfee antivirus software has been included in the list of those that have had compatibility issues with IE 8.

Initital testing, though, shows McAfee's browser-based Site Advisor Plus does, in fact, work on Windows 7 Beta and with IE 8.

Setup repeatedly stops and restarts in Windows XP

Posted on 03:19 by Unknown
This issue may occur if your hard disk is damaged or corrupted. You receive the error messages because the Setup program is trying to repair the problem on your hard disk.

You receive the following error message when you try to format your hard disk during setup:
Setup has performed maintenance on your hard disk. You must restart your computer to continue with Setup.

You receive the following message during setup:
Setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partition. This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation.

The computer stops responding (hangs or freezes), and then you receive the following fatal error message:
An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Data error "cyclic redundancy check"

Note: When you restart your computer after you receive these messages, Setup starts again, and the process may repeat.

To resolve this issue, use the following Steps in the order that they are presented until the issue is resolved.

Step 1: Let the Setup program repair the hard disk
Repeat the cycle of running Setup, restarting your computer when prompted, and then allowing Setup to repair the disk. Setup may successfully complete after several repetitions. If the cycle continues after several repetitions, go to Step 2.

Step 2: Run "chkdsk /r" from the Recovery Console
To run chkdsk /r from the recovery console, follow these steps:

1. Restart the computer.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, press ENTER.
5. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.
6. When Chkdsk has finished running, read the results, and then take any necessary steps to complete the process. For example, you may be prompted to run chkdsk /f to fix certain problems.
7. Restart the computer, and then try to run Setup again.

Step 3: Replace your hard disk drive
If your hard disk drive is damaged and cannot be repaired, you may have to replace it. Contact your computer manufacturer, the retailer where you bought it, or a qualified computer repair technician for information about replacing your hard disk.
